Property Development Updates


Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Thank you for your patience in waiting for additional information regarding a neighborhood meeting. We are happy to announce we now have a date on the calendar for this meeting.

We invite you to join us at Mt. Scott Church (10603 SE Henderson Street) on January 8th at 7:00 pm for a neighborhood meeting concerning the sale of a portion of our property. Present will be several people you met at the first meeting, if you were in attendance: our Board Chair (Stuart Schmaltz), Pastor (Denise Douglas), Project Manager (Jerry Jones) and a couple of new faces: Jason Reyes from the company in the process of purchasing the property and Cameron Schwab, the realtor working with this project. We want you to hear about the process leading up to the last meeting, what has transpired since that meeting, and have the opportunity to interact and ask questions. We will again provide light refreshments and encourage you to come and mingle with your neighbors!


An open letter to our friends, neighbors and families.

We have an important update on the plans for future use of a portion of our Mt. Scott Church property. This week, the church signed a Purchase and Sales Agreement with Chronograph Properties (CP) to build a Senior Living Facility, including both assisted living and memory care, on the northeast acreage of our property. Current building design concepts envision approximately 120 units.

The facility will be run by CP’s affiliated company, Calson Management. Calson is a family owned business that currently operates seven other senior housing communities in California.

The Mt. Scott Church Board has approved this sale, and it has been ratified by a congregational vote of 100%.

Mt. Scott sees this project creating the following positive impacts on the church community and neighborhood:

  • Improved usage of land to service a needed demographic of senior care, as opposed to individual residential homes.
  • Greater green space retention than would be possible in an 18-lot subdivision.
  • A less complicated land use process, which will save time in development.

Next steps:

We are eager to begin reviewing our plans with you. Over the next several months, our project team will be getting things started and scheduling time for a neighborhood meeting. We will announce the date for that meeting here on the webpage, through the Community Connection Center webpage and through LNLA (neighborhood association) in the weeks ahead.

In addition, you can expect to hear about:

  1. Scheduling a City of Portland Pre-Application and Early Assistance meeting.
  2. Submitting a Conditional Use Permit application for approval by a hearings officer.
  3. Review of the application by the City of Portland, with possible approval late in 2020.

Once all these steps are completed, construction will begin. We believe that won’t be until at least the spring of 2021.
